{"id":710,"date":"2010-04-08T11:58:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-08T15:58:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/?p=710"},"modified":"2010-04-08T11:58:00","modified_gmt":"2010-04-08T15:58:00","slug":"sir-mix-a-lot-musings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2010\/04\/08\/sir-mix-a-lot-musings\/","title":{"rendered":"Sir-Mix-a-Lot Musings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sore today, most specifically mah butt.<\/p>\n<p>Laugh all you want.\u00a0 When you do <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exrx.net\/WeightExercises\/GluteusMaximus\/BBStrBackStiffLegDeadlift.html\">Stiff-Legged Deadlifts<\/a> with proper form, it works da bootay, which is more or less why I do them.<\/p>\n<p>Believe it or not, this is not a vanity thing.\u00a0 Women, listen up.\u00a0 A significant discrepancy between your quad strength<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> and hamstring strength<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> can have a destabilizing effect on knee strength putting you at risk for knee injuries, such as an ACL<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> rupture<a href=\"#_ftn4\">[4]<\/a>.\u00a0 This strength discrepancy is a bit more common in women.<\/p>\n<p>Now, I don\u2019t know that my own ACL injury was in any way exacerbated by a strength incompatibility.\u00a0 I expect in my case it was considerably more of a Rule One issue.\u00a0 If you\u2019re 35, short and around 200 lbs, it might be that a flying side kick is not the best activity choice for knee health.\u00a0 Just sayin\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>But be that as it may, if you\u2019re considering strength building work, don\u2019t neglect the butt<a href=\"#_ftn5\">[5]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr size=\"1\" \/><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> That\u2019s the muscles in the front of the thighs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> That\u2019s the muscles in the butt to the knee.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> Anterior Cruciate Ligament.\u00a0 It\u2019s a twisty little ligament in the front of the knee that\u2019s critical to knee stability.\u00a0 You CAN rupture it and then compensate by working out to strengthen the muscles to stabilize, or you can get the surgery.\u00a0 I\u2019m not an athlete and could have gotten away with not getting the surgery, but I\u2019m here to say I\u2019m glad I did.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a> B.-O.
