{"id":528,"date":"2009-10-17T09:51:17","date_gmt":"2009-10-17T13:51:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/?p=528"},"modified":"2009-10-17T09:51:17","modified_gmt":"2009-10-17T13:51:17","slug":"random-morning-thoughts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2009\/10\/17\/random-morning-thoughts\/","title":{"rendered":"Random Morning Thoughts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIf there is any kind of Supreme Being, it is up to us to become his moral superior.\u201d \u00a0&#8211; Lord Havelock Vetinari <em>Unseen Academicals<\/em>, by Sir Terry Pratchett.<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, I&#8217;ve been a little slow off the mark reading the new Pratchett book. \u00a0It came out a couple of weeks ago and I&#8217;ve only just acquired it. \u00a0It was a little startling, therefore that this particular comment appeared that was so in harmony with some things I&#8217;ve been thinking during my own Bible study<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a passage in Matthew<a href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> where Jesus is discussing the goodness of the Nature of God.\u00a0 Ya know, maybe God was good by the standards of the time, but any parent who treated his child like God treated His children would have found himself hauled in front of a court to answer for abusing his kids.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, you always get the Elisha and the Bears<a href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a> comment from we people who are just too horrible and corrupt to understand the goodness of God.\u00a0 But <em>read<\/em> the Bible with care and attention.\u00a0 The book is <em>loaded<\/em> with similar stories.\u00a0 My flawed and human parents loved me more than to <em>murder<\/em> me for making fun of someone\u2019s bald head, just sayin\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t see that what\u2019s described in the Bible is in any way loving, especially the Christian story.\u00a0 God <em>set up<\/em> the game in the first place, so he set it <em>up<\/em> that someone had to be tortured to death in a nasty way to redeem people for things that God defined as sins in the first place?\u00a0 I wouldn\u2019t even consider pulling a shell game like that on someone I <em>hated<\/em>, much less someone I loved.<\/p>\n<p>If there is a God and he\u2019s anything like the Biblical description, he\u2019s vicious, childish and cruel.\u00a0 This, I\u2019m supposed to worship?\u00a0 The description of God from the Bible is someone I\u2019d try my best to stay far, far away from and do my best to shield my kids from.<\/p>\n<hr size=\"1\" \/><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> Yes, we Godless Heathens dammed to the fires of everlasting torment do study religious texts, too. \u00a0Strange, innit?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref2\">[2]<\/a> Matthew 7:9-10 Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone?\u00a0 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref3\">[3]<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2%20Kings%202:23-25&amp;version=NIV\">2 Kings 2:23-25<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cIf there is any kind of Supreme Being, it is up to us to become his moral superior.\u201d \u00a0&#8211; Lord Havelock Vetinari Unseen Academicals, by Sir Terry Pratchett.
