{"id":477,"date":"2009-09-01T08:57:32","date_gmt":"2009-09-01T12:57:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/?p=477"},"modified":"2009-09-01T08:57:32","modified_gmt":"2009-09-01T12:57:32","slug":"giving-up-hard-core","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2009\/09\/01\/giving-up-hard-core\/","title":{"rendered":"Giving Up Hard Core"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve gained more weight than I&#8217;m happy with.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve not been as active as I should be, and I&#8217;ve been doing a lot of snacking on bread in spite of the bentos.<\/p>\n<p>So, back to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nosdiet.com\/\">No-S<\/a>, and getting in at least a small workout every weekday.\u00a0 That&#8217;s sustainable and non-invasive and doesn&#8217;t have the Forbidden Food Fallacy.\u00a0 I recognize allergies and medical conditions are one thing.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have that problem.\u00a0 My problem is a simple problem of mindless snacking, especially in the evenings. No-S solves that problem quite well.\u00a0 If it hurts when you do <em>that<\/em>, stop doing <em>that.<\/em> Simple. (Y&#8217;all know simple and easy aren&#8217;t necessarily the same?\u00a0 Yeah, figured you did!)<\/p>\n<p>For exercise, I  can:\u00a0 Go for a walk, put in a swim, do a shovelglove session, do a weights  workout at the gym or do bodyweight exercises.\u00a0 Any of those counts, and I&#8217;m allowed to follow whim as long as I am doing <em>something<\/em>. I can go hard or not as I like.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the consistency I&#8217;m worried about rather than any progress issue.<\/p>\n<p>My goal here is habits rather than progress.\u00a0 That&#8217;ll take care of itself, but going hammer and tongs at fitness and lifestyle goals doesn&#8217;t work. I know it.\u00a0 And still I keep trying to do it.\u00a0 Why I keep doing it when it doesn&#8217;t work, I don&#8217;t know.\u00a0 Well, yeah, I do.\u00a0 I&#8217;m an intensity junkie.\u00a0 That&#8217;s dandy for some things, but it&#8217;s not serving me here.<\/p>\n<p>So the goal itself is consistent habits.\u00a0 I may eschew even weighing myself.\u00a0 Eat three full meals a day (if you don&#8217;t snack, the meals need to be comfortably substantial to get the right amount of food), and have a treat on weekends or holidays if I want them.\u00a0\u00a0 I won&#8217;t track what I eat or the calorie content, but simply eat three single-plate (or bento box) meals a day.\u00a0 Honestly?\u00a0 My meals are pretty decently healthy, so it&#8217;s not really a concern.\u00a0 It&#8217;s all that nibbling that&#8217;s the real problem.<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t track my fitness progress other than whether or not a workout happened out every weekday.\u00a0 Right now my real problem is that I get all excited about a goal and get all into it and then burn out.\u00a0 That&#8217;s not serving me.<\/p>\n<p>The point here is that I&#8217;m spending far too much mental energy on problems that could be solved simply with consistent moderate habits.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Goodness knows it worked with housekeeping.\u00a0 My house is adequately neat and I do <em>not<\/em> spend my life cleaning house.\u00a0\u00a0 So I expect it&#8217;ll do nearly as well with my body as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve gained more weight than I&#8217;m happy with.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve not been as active as I should be, and I&#8217;ve been doing a lot of snacking on bread in spite of the bentos.
