{"id":427,"date":"2009-07-19T07:50:03","date_gmt":"2009-07-19T11:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/?p=427"},"modified":"2009-07-19T07:50:03","modified_gmt":"2009-07-19T11:50:03","slug":"sea-kittens-and-oberserving-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2009\/07\/19\/sea-kittens-and-oberserving-nature\/","title":{"rendered":"Sea Kittens and Oberserving Nature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First off, I think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/cgi-bin\/article.cgi?f=%2Fc%2Fa%2F2009%2F07%2F15%2FBA8618P99O.DTL\">PETA&#8217;s  leadership<\/a> is crazy.\u00a0 But, apparently they have enough money to keep a state  park open.\u00a0 I have to wonder what rich nutjobs give these people  money.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m all <em>for<\/em> animals under human care being humanely  treated.\u00a0 I also know what it would do to the price of meat.\u00a0 I&#8217;m okay with  that, but I&#8217;m not struggling as much as some, am a good cook even with  vegetarian dishes, and really couldn&#8217;t give a damn if domestic species of  animals die out or not. Die out, you ask?\u00a0 If we all went vegan, where would be  the incentive to keep these expensive and expensive to care for animals?\u00a0  Holsteins didn&#8217;t evolve in nature, friends, and need specific care.\u00a0\u00a0Many  domestic species\u00a0either can&#8217;t survive in the wild or would be damn dangerous to  let loose if they can.\u00a0 Go up against a wild pig unarmed sometime. If you  survive, you&#8217;ll only do it once.\u00a0 And I don&#8217;t think you&#8217;ll feel quite as warm  and fuzzy about Wilbur any more.<\/p>\n<p>Have these people ever seen an  <em>animal<\/em> hunt?\u00a0 For that matter, have they ever really watched  <em>cats<\/em> that they want to rename fish &#8220;sea kittens&#8221; to produce some kind  of emotive response in people?\u00a0 Cats are sadistic little monsters.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve taken  mice away from my cats and put them out of their misery because the squeaking  got to be too much for me.\u00a0 <span style=\"font-weight: 800;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/userinfo.bml?user=greendalek\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/img\/userinfo.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"greendalek\" width=\"17\" height=\"17\" align=\"absmiddle\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.livejournal.com\/users\/greendalek\/\">greendalek<\/a><\/span> did  the same with a dove, once, because the cat had spent about fifteen minutes  crippling it and then toying with it.\u00a0 It was <em>awful<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I won&#8217;t go  into the ethics of eating meat, because I&#8217;ve not examined the logical arguments  for and against. Logical, not emotive.\u00a0 The poor fuzzy animals approach doesn&#8217;t  work on me when there are human beings under conditions just as bad if not  worse.\u00a0\u00a0 I\u00a0know I\u00a0feel physically better and healthier when I eat a diet of  primarily meat and produce (not grains).\u00a0 That doesn&#8217;t leave much room for the  vegan diet.\u00a0 I realize that doesn&#8217;t touch the arguments about a living thing  having to die for me to feel energetic and healthy, but I&#8217;ll be blunt.  <em>People<\/em> die for those cheap clothes you&#8217;re wearing, too.\u00a0 I find that a  bigger concern.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s where it comes down to for me.\u00a0 While the  ecosystem needs to be cared for so we don&#8217;t foul our own nest, I do  think\u00a0sentient, thinking beings\u00a0are more important than non-sentient, thinking  beings.\u00a0 (Hey, hadda throw that in there.\u00a0 Science fiction fan and all).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>First off, I think PETA&#8217;s leadership is crazy.\u00a0 But, apparently they have enough money to keep a state park open.\u00a0 I have to wonder what rich nutjobs give these people money.
