{"id":31,"date":"2007-08-29T00:00:26","date_gmt":"2007-08-29T05:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/2007\/08\/29\/handling-rejection-and-criticism\/"},"modified":"2007-08-29T00:00:26","modified_gmt":"2007-08-29T05:00:26","slug":"handling-rejection-and-criticism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2007\/08\/29\/handling-rejection-and-criticism\/","title":{"rendered":"Handling Rejection and Criticism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sent out a couple of queries to <em>At the Foot of the Throne<\/em> to agents today.<\/p>\n<p>I always feel a little anxious when I send these things out, though mostly not.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve a fine collection of rejection slips, so it&#8217;s not a huge deal to me.<\/p>\n<p>People say you need a thick skin to break into writing.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t necessarily know that&#8217;s so in the early stages.\u00a0 A pre-printed rejection form doesn&#8217;t have the zing, I think, that a detailed analysis of why you suck would.\u00a0 While a novice in the industry, I know the detailed analysis means you&#8217;re getting close, so I&#8217;m not so sure that would get to me all that much!<\/p>\n<p>I often wonder how I&#8217;ll deal with the &#8220;yes&#8221;.\u00a0 I mean, the rejection forms?\u00a0 I&#8217;ve gotten plenty.\u00a0 But critics?\u00a0 That, I&#8217;ve never dealt with &#8212; or at least not much.\u00a0\u00a0 Wearing my other hat as a polyamory activist, and writing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.polyamorousmisanthrope.com\">weekly column<\/a>, I do get people who disagree with my stuff all the time.\u00a0 I cheer that, to be honest.\u00a0 It means people are reading it, thinking about it and reacting.\u00a0 I mean, sure, I get the occasional feedback that makes me grind my teeth a little.<\/p>\n<p>How&#8217;s that gonna be with a published book?\u00a0 No idea.\u00a0 I&#8217;m often curious how the pros react.\u00a0 &lt;grin&gt;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sent out a couple of queries to At the Foot of the Throne to agents today.
