{"id":2398,"date":"2017-09-17T19:45:02","date_gmt":"2017-09-17T23:45:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/?p=2398"},"modified":"2017-09-17T20:38:18","modified_gmt":"2017-09-18T00:38:18","slug":"dorm-rat-cooking-a-boring-stir-fry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2017\/09\/17\/dorm-rat-cooking-a-boring-stir-fry\/","title":{"rendered":"Dorm Rat Cooking: A boring stir-fry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/091717_2344_DormRatCook1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This meal requires a little more equipment than the last few I&#8217;ve done.<\/p>\n<h1>To make this meal, you need:<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>Frying pan<\/li>\n<li>Cutting board<\/li>\n<li>Sharp Knife<\/li>\n<li>A heat source<\/li>\n<li>A way to make rice (I have a microwave rice cooker and a microwave)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<p>Per person served:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>.25-.5 lb diced chicken (thighs are good for this and cheap)<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc c diced onion<\/li>\n<li>1 T minced garlic (I use the stuff you squeeze out of a bottle when space is limited)<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc c thinly sliced carrots<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc c broccoli flowerets<\/li>\n<li>\u00bc c sliced red peppers (In reality, you can put almost any veggies you like in this, but you want \u00be-1 c veggies per person)<\/li>\n<li>1\/8 c Kikkoman Stir fry sauce (In real life I never do this, but make my own. When I have limited space in a kitchen, this stuff works great)<\/li>\n<li>2T oil. (I use Peanut oil for stir frys in Real Life, but for all-purpose cooking oil, olive works out great)<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd c rice<\/li>\n<li>1 c. water<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Cooking the rice<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/091717_2344_DormRatCook2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This little plastic microwave rice cooker does the job. Typically, I use two cups of water per cup of uncooked rice and microwave on high for 13-15 minutes. You&#8217;ll have to experiment with your own microwave, as power can vary.<\/p>\n<h2>Stir Fry<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/091717_2344_DormRatCook3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For the stir fry, you heat the oil first, then add the meat and aromatics (in this case onion and garlic. Fresh ginger is amazing in this, but I was being lazy). When they start sizzling (Call it five minutes or so), add the carrots. After a couple of minutes, add the broccoli. I don&#8217;t like broccoli too tender, so give it about three or four minutes, then add the peppers.<\/p>\n<p>When the peppers are as tender as you like (not very, in my case) add the stir fry sauce.
