{"id":141,"date":"2008-05-31T14:31:25","date_gmt":"2008-05-31T18:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/noelfigart.com\/blog\/?p=141"},"modified":"2008-05-31T14:31:25","modified_gmt":"2008-05-31T18:31:25","slug":"first-aid-skilz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/noelfigart.com\/wordpress\/2008\/05\/31\/first-aid-skilz\/","title":{"rendered":"First Aid Skilz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Personnel at my gym are required to be certified as with CPR and the automated defibrillator.<\/p>\n<p>Man, things have changed since I took this course when I was 14 or so.\u00a0 The AED was not a common piece of first aid equipment and the CPR procedure has changed quite a bit.\u00a0\u00a0 Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, ferinstance, you were supposed to do 4 compressions to 2 breaths.\u00a0 The ratio is now 30 to 2 on adults.<\/p>\n<p>The equipment is different, too.\u00a0 Does anyone remember those <a href=\"http:\/\/www.snopes.com\/medical\/emergent\/cprannie.asp\">Annie <\/a>dolls?\u00a0 Creepy as they are, you now practice\u00a0 on a bald torso, which is creepier and use a mask.\u00a0 I was an idiot and forgot to buy myself the glove and mask kit I&#8217;m suppose to carry now.\u00a0 I wasn&#8217;t told going in, but if you take the course, you&#8217;re suppose to render aid if needed, even when you&#8217;re not on the job.\u00a0\u00a0 I mean, God, who <em>wouldn&#8217;t<\/em>!\u00a0 But they make a big deal of that now.<\/p>\n<p>Glad to have the info, of course, but golly I hope I&#8217;ll never need it.<\/p>\n<p>I have to say I don&#8217;t much like the dolls they have now, as they don&#8217;t have a feedback mechanism to make sure you&#8217;ve got the respiration right.\u00a0 The old Annie dolls did.\u00a0 I can only suppose they&#8217;re ruinously expensive.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Personnel at my gym are required to be certified as with CPR and the automated defibrillator.
